Stryders represented a female who was the first female in England & Wales to be prosecuted for controlling and coercive behaviour. The case concluded with guilty pleas, but the prosecution referred the sentence to the Attorney General to review on the basis that it was ‘unduly lenient’. The Court of Appeal refused to interfere with the sentence when the Attorney General referred it to the Court of Appeal.
