Competitive transparent legal costs
If you’re facing a criminal allegation you will want to make sure you’re getting the best legal advice at a competitive rate. On this page you’ll find our standard rates for fee-paying clients, information on fixed fees and legal aid.
In some cases we may offer discretion on our standard rates. Contact us direct to discuss your needs and let’s see what we can do for you. We can also advise and apply for legal aid if available.
Hourly rates
Our competitive hourly rates are often the most cost-effective way to access the level of support and expertise you require and are completely transparent. We can also look at options for fixed-fee services. Please get in touch to discuss your circumstances.
These fees do not affect your right to free representation at a police station if you are arrested or attend a voluntary interview. These remain free as long as you retain our service from your first interview.
Please note that the prices below do not include VAT, court fees or the costs of any additional expert reports, witnesses or legal counsel (barristers) you may need in the future. However, we will always consult with you to discuss your options before any additional expenditure is incurred.
Service | Rate per hour |
---|---|
Senior solicitors and legal executives with over 8 years’ experience | £275 plus VAT |
Senior solicitors and legal executives with over 4 years’ experience | £190 plus VAT |
Other solicitors, legal executives and fee earners with equivalent experience | £150 plus VAT |
Trainee solicitors, paralegals and other fee earners | £110 plus VAT |
Telephone calls, letters and emails are charged per item at 10% of the applicable hourly rate.
In certain circumstances, we may exercise our discretion in the hourly rate charged for each case but rates will not exceed those published here.
Fixed fees
We may be able to offer you a competitive fixed task-based fee to help you budget more easily. These fees will usually involve a package of advice and services, for example an initial consultation, or attending one or more hearings at court to include meetings, document reviews and consultations with prosecutors. Please contact us to find out more and discuss your specific circumstances.
Legal aid
Everyone is entitled to free legal representation at a police station with the solicitor of their choice, irrespective of their financial means. However, if your case continues beyond that interview you may have to pay for ongoing legal advice unless you qualify for legal aid. If you are entitled to legal aid, all your court costs and legal representation will be paid for by the Government.
Your entitlement to legal aid will depend on your personal income, savings and other capital. Generally speaking, if you earn less than £12,300 and have no other assets you are likely to receive legal aid for all of your costs, but not any fines you may be asked to pay at the end of your case. If you earn more than this, but not more than about £20,000 (possibly more if you have other commitments, such as children) you may be entitled to means-tested grant of legal aid. Sometimes, again dependent on your means, if your case goes to crown court you may have to pay a certain contribution to your legal aid grant. If you lose the case in the crown court the Legal Aid Agency can claim back some of the award you had received. The Government’s free Legal Aid Calculator can give you an idea.
Sometimes, even if your income is high, if your case is considered to be ‘in the interests of justice’, you may be entitled to some support. And it may be worth making a legal aid application in any case as, even if you are unsuccessful, if you are later acquitted you may be able claim back-dated legal aid towards your court costs.
We will always consider the options for legal aid if you employ us to represent you. We can also give you information to help you use the calculator and help you make a legal aid application if it applies to you.
